****The Common Woman Chorus of Durham, a progressive chorus now entering its 25th year of woman-positive music-making, seeks a rehearsal and performance accompanist.
Excellent sight-reading skills required; experience accompanying choral performing group highly preferred. ****VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  Orange County Rape Crisis Center to hold Training this Fall
The Orange County Rape Crisis Center is accepting applications for its Fall 2008 volunteer training class.  The Center seeks dedicated individuals with diverse backgrounds, ideas and experience to volunteer their time to answer its 24-hour crisis response line, present educational programs and facilitate support groups. Spanish-speakers and individuals with daytime and weekday availability are strongly encouraged to apply.  Training will be provided and begins in September. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, August 27th.General volunteer applications can be obtained at the Orange County Public Library in Hillsborough, the Chapel Hill Public Library, the UNC Campus Y, the Carolina Women’s Center and the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History, or by calling the Center’s offices.  Applications can also be downloaded or completed online at www.ocrcc.org. **** On September 24th at 7:00 p.m. the Carolina College of Lifelong Learning will offer a discussion of  Kenji Yoshino's book "Covering: The Hidden Assault on our Civil Rights" at the Carolina Club in the Hill Alumni Center in Chapel Hill.  Two UNC faculty will serve as discussion leaders of this book that looks at how people with stigmatized identities, based on differences in race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or disability status, are coerced into toning down, or covering, those identities, and how it is damaging, not only to the individual, but to society as a whole. **** HealthWorks, a program of Triangle Community Works, has formed a group for
gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and queer people in the Triangle area of
North Carolina who want to stay healthy, lose weight, and/or socialize while
enjoying the great outdoors. The group walks/hikes once a week at different
locations each month. Check the group for ongoing details. When: Sundays
Time: Meet and greet - 3:45 PM Walk starts at 4:00 pm  **NOTE TIME CHANGE**
This month's walks will take place at Umstead Park starting from the Cary/I-40
entrance parking lot.We'll meet at 3:45 PM at the west end of the parking lot near
the restroom building, and the walk will begin at 4:00 PM.Look for the TCW yellow
smiley face to meet the group.You don't have to be a triathelete to participate.
We have walkers from all levels and all body types. Please note that although we all
enjoy the social aspect of the group, its primary purpose is to help with physical fitness.

Nature of Responsibilities
The staff specialist provides administrative and secretarial assistance of a complex and confidential nature in support of the activities of the Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Life as well as support for the Director and Program Coordinator.
Specific Duties
1.
    Serve as primary customer service point of contact and triage for the LGBT Center including answering phones and greeting visitors.
2.    Handle logistical arrangements for Center programming and events such as room reservations and food orders/delivery.
3.    Inventory and order all supplies periodically including those for office, kitchen, and facilities.
4.    Reconcile procurement card charges for staff.  Maintain appropriate documentation on file.
5.    Reconcile monthly statements and track expenses.  Initiate transactions as appropriate and necessary in SAP. Provide monthly variance reports to the Director and other financial analysis as needed and requested especially during budgeting periods.
6.    Maintain reservation calendar for LGBT Center facilities.
7.    Arrange for maintenance, cleaning, and general upkeep of the 2,500 sq. foot facility.
8.    Assist with the hiring and supervision of student employees including hiring paperwork and time cards.
9.    Work with the Director and Program Coordinator in producing materials for programming and events.
10.    Other administrative tasks as assigned by the Director including special projects and other tasks associated with the operation of the center.
Minimum Requirements
Two years of postsecondary education.
Minimum 2 years experience in university student services setting.  A bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for the ducation and experience requirement. Knowledge of Duke systems such as PARIS, SAP, R/3, and iForms preferred.
Specific Skills and Competencies
•    Experience with and knowledge of the LGBT community and other diverse populations required.
•    Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
•    Strong customer service orientation
•    Proven ability to work in a team environment
•    Outstanding administrative and organizational skills
